This is a nice set. It has a GEM Open Comb Micromatic (also called a OCMM). This is one of the most popular razors GEM ever made, second only to the venerable 1912. Where the dating of GEM razors is usually hit and miss, we can pin this one down pretty close. It was made sometime around 1935. How do we know? We have an advertisement from 1935 that features this razor in this style of bakelite case. We see a lot of these sets in brown bakelite. This one is unusual in that the case is a fantastic green marbled bakelite.

As you can see in the photos, the razor isn't perfect, but it is very good. There are some light scuffs and some discoloration that would likely improve with something more than our "light clean and sterilize" process. To me, the case is about perfect. The photos don't do the green color justice. If you do decide to clean the case further, be very careful. In our experience this bakelite is very sensitive to cleaning solutions. Just soap and water is best for that.

The GEM single edge razors are often praised as being the closest thing to a straight razor shave. The Open Comb Micromatic is loved by many shavers due to the open comb design that helps manage a longer or tougher beard with less risk of being cut. If you do intend to shave with it, you should purchase new GEM style blades, which are available in multiple brands from a variety of sources.

Wonderful piece of shaving history to use or display.
