This is an excellent example of a Gillette Red Tip Super Speed safety razor. Gillette manufactured the Super Speed model in various forms for many years due to its enduring popularity. This type is called a "Red Tip" or "Heavy". It was made for the more thick or coarse beard. It has a wider blade gap and heavier weight than the standard Super Speed. This one is from 1956 as shown by the date code of B1.
While more aggressive than a standard Super Speed, the Red Tip is milder than the early open comb designs. It's a favorite of many shavers. Takes a standard double edge razor blade which is available from many sources in stores and online.
As you can see in the photos, it's in really good condition. It looks great in your hand, and will shave perfectly. The plating on the head has some slight discoloration that looks like water spots. The handle and knob are in the best condition I've ever seen. It's in very good shape as is, but something more than our "light clean and sterilize" process would probably make it look even better. The case is also in great condition. There is one section on the right with some cracks or scratches on it, but the overall plastic is not crazed or discolored. It even pops open properly when you push the button.
Excellent way to try out this highly rated vintage razor.
