This is a very cool "Lather Catcher" style razor. It is a Winner brand, patented in 1903. One cool feature of this model, the head opens up for easy cleaning. This is an excellent example of the early development of the safety razor. This would have originally been a "wedge" shaver, that took a solid blade that looked like a cut off piece of a straight razor. Since the wedge blades were pretty standard, when the single edge disposable blade was developed, it fit many of the old wedge shavers. So, as old as it is, this razor uses standard Single Edge razor blades, which are available in a variety of brands from several sources. The single edge blade shown in the photo is for illustration only, and not included. Many people say using a single edge is the next closest shave to a straight razor.

As you can see in the photos, it is in very good condition for the age. There is a little scratching and brassing. However, in your hand, it looks shiny and just plan cool. If you do choose to shave with it, you should be a little careful. As you can see in the photos, the notches to hold the front of the blade are a little shallow, and don't catch the blade real well. If you pay attention when loading it, it should be fine, or you may be able to improve the condition of the blade rests. Very attractive razor.

Clever, historic razor for use or display.
