Whiting and Davis Chain Mesh Purse from the 1920s

Here we have a wonderful example of a Whiting and Davis Chain Mail or Mesh lady's handbag or purse. It's amazing to look at this metal "fabric" and think of the time it took to make. This style of bag was popular during the "roaring twenties".

As you can see in the photos, the bag is in very good overall condition. Some of the silver plate is a bit worn in spots, and the coloring on the mesh is slightly faded, but still very pretty. The silk liner is perfect, and the factory paper instructing the owner where to send the bag for repairs is still inside. Partly because of this, we tend to think the bag was never used.

Wonderful and amazing craftsmanship from a time gone by.
