While it is only the box, this is still a pretty cool item. It's from the "Orbital Rocket" model kit by Monogram. Their "Plastikit" PS46-149. They reissued some of these kits in 1996, but this is the original from 1959. I'd never heard of him, but apparently Willy Ley was right in with Wernher Von Braun and Chesley Bonestell as being early space visionaries. He co-authored books with both of them, along with his own books.
I keep stressing this is just the box, but it does include the instructions, an information book from Willy, an advertising sheet for other Monogram models and a few leftover bits and pieces. There is a tear in the lid on one side, but it would still display very nicely on the shelf.
The design of the rocket itself is very interesting with two manned sections: the lift section and the space section. Most of it looks like it was designed to be recovered and reused. Very advanced thinking.
Fascinating glimpse into the early ideas of how to get into space.
