This is a very attractive GEM set. It has a "1912" style GEM single edge razor, and a nice blade box in a celluloid case. The razor takes standard single edge razor blade, which are available in a variety of brands in stores and online.

Starting from the outside, the box is in very good condition for the age and material. Celluloid is notoriously brittle. On the outside, the case is nearly perfect, with the faux grain patterns characteristic of "French Ivory". The clasp and hinge operate perfectly. Inside, there are some cracks and a hole where the handle sits. It still looks great and has done the job of protecting the razor.

The plating on the razor is fantastic with almost no visible flaws. It looks and feels great in your hand. Both the razor and blade box sparkle like jewelry. Everything would probably benefit from something more than our standard "light clean and sterilize" process.

There's a blade included with the set for display. That's what we used to decide on the date for the set. The last patent on it is from 1930. I've always enjoyed the swirled grinding and ornate stamping of these old blades.

Many folks say the 1912 style GEM razor is the best shave you'll ever get. This highly collectible set gives you a chance to give that a try, or it's a great item for display.
