This razor is a rare beasty. It is an open comb twist to open (TTO) razor by Gillette. It is a Senator "One Piece Razor". This was produced in 1938 or 1939. It is a close ancestor of the famous Gillette Super Speed (and brother to the gold plated Sheraton). This model led to the Ranger Tech, which was reworked into the Super Speed. Many feel the 1940's model Super Speeds are the best razors Gillette ever made. If you start with that level of performance, and enhance it with an open comb design, you end up with something really special. The Senator combines almost unique shaving performance with rarity and history. Uses standard Gillette style blades available from a variety of sources.

As you can see in the photos, it's not perfect. For the most part, the nickel plating is pretty good, though dull. If that was all there was to it, you could probably buff it out. However, there is a pretty big area of light brassing on the handle. It also has a mild case of "knob drop". Still, it looks cool as can be, and you could have it re-plated and triple your money. Operates perfectly, and otherwise ready to go.

Good razor to use or collect. Nice rare one. Enjoy a piece of shaving history!
