This is a Stanley Number 84 folding ruler. It is 24 inches long when open. Overall, it's in good shape with a nice color. All the markings on the boxwood are readable with a nice patina. There measurements scribed into the brass hinge can be seen, but are largely faded. The reason this ruler is priced so low is because it has been cracked and poorly repaired on the 24 inch end. The repair is visible in two of the photos. This type of ruler was manufactured between 1859 and 1920. We think this example is one of the earlier years, but we have no way to be sure.
